National Anthem at the PHS Homecoming Football Game

At the 2018 Homecoming football game on September 28, participants of the Poquoson Veterans Project were invited to join the PHS Islander Marching Band on the field during the playing of the national anthem.

Coin Toss at PHS Football Games

Aug. 24

Retired U.S. Navy Commander Peter Bachand was recognized on August 24th; both he and his son, senior Jack Bachand, were made team captains for the night. They took the field together for Commander Bachand to perform the coin toss.

Homecoming - Sept. 28

Mr. Joe Kelly, a WWII veteran, was made an honorary football captain on September 28 and took the field with his fellow football captains to shake hands with the Warhill High School team captains (left). Below, Mr. Kelly performed the coin toss to start the game.

Oct. 16

Retired Army Colonel Jeff Davies was recognized and invited to perform the coin toss on October 16.

Interview Day

On October 4, the veterans were invited to PHS to meet their students. They had lunch together and the students interviewed their veterans about their military service experience. The bottom left is the video of the room, as the students talk to their veterans for the first time, and the bottom right is the ABC Channel 13 News Now story.
